Walnut Shell Filters How it Works
HY walnut shell filter use walnut shells which are specially processed as its filtering media, because walnut shells special advantages as follows:
1. Walnut shells have strong oil adsorption capacity; it can adsorb most of the oil in the oily sewage.
2. Walnut shells can renewable after back washing; so that walnut shell filter media can be used again, saving water treatment costs.
3. Walnut shells have strong pressure resistance; its pressure resistance is 23.4kgf/cm2.
4. The chemical properties of the walnut shells are stable; it is almost not dissolved in acid and alkali solutions.
5. The hardness of walnut shells is high, and its wear resistance is good too; it can be used for long time.
6. Walnut shells have strong adsorption and pollutant catching capacity (adsorption rate 25-53%)
7. Walnut shells are hydrophilic well, but oil immersion resistant.
8. Because the specific gravity of the walnut shell filter media is little bigger than that of water (1.225g/cm3), it is easy for back washing and regeneration.

How does a Walnut Shell Filter work
Walnut shell filter is one type of separation equipment which adopts filtration separation principle and oil resistance filtering media-walnut shells. It is mainly made up of filtering system, washing system and control system (one is automatic while the other is manual). When filtering, the water sewage flow is from up to down, passing through water distributor, filtering media bedding and water collector, and then one time of filtering finishes. When backwashing, the agitator turns over walnut shell filtering media, the water flow is from down to up, making the walnut shell filtering media be washed and regenerated thoroughly.

Why Walnut Shells Make Oil Drilling More Efficient

 Everyday the demand on oil producers around the world continues to increase at exponential rates. The only way to keep up with the demand is to increase production, and that means increasing efficiency so that the trip from the field to the pump doesn't sap a company's profits.
This increased production also means increased waste that needs to be cleaned in accordance with environmental regulations. This is where walnut shells can lend a hand and treat the wastewater that results from oil drilling. This wastewater is filtered through screens containing black walnut shells that remove up to twice as much waste as sand filters.
Furthermore, walnut shell filters can clear three times the amount of waste before they need to be cleaned. This is possible because walnut shells have the ideal surface structure to filter water through, and their resilience to attrition means that they last longer and provide a level of effluency that is unmatched.

What is a Walnut Shell Filter?

Although filtration is the most effective method of removing the suspended matter in the water, but to the water including oil and grease, the normal filtration processing does little. Walnut shell filter is developed especially to treat the waste water including oil and grease.
Walnut shell filter is normally applied to oil field and other oily sewage. Presently, the walnut shell filter is playing a great role in oily waste water treatment in various industries.
Walnut shell filter adopts walnut shell after special processing as filter medium. Walnut shell has strong adsorptive interception capacity (adsorption rate: 25~53%) and stress tolerance (23.4kgf/cm2); walnut shell can be backwashing and regeneration; walnut shell has strong the chemical property of walnut shell is stable not easy to dissolve in the acid solution or alkali solution; the hardness of walnut shell is strong; walnut shell has good abrasion resistance, not needing replacement for long time; walnut shell has good hydrophilicity and oil impregnation. And even its biggest advantage is adopting the water before filtration directly to back wash, not needing the help of air supply and chemical agents. As a result, the running costs of walnut shell filter is low; the management of walnut shell filter is simple; the backwashing strength of walnut shell filter is small; the filtration effect of walnut shell filter is good; the filter materials of walnut shell filter is not easy becoming putrid for long time; and even more, the walnut shell filter can be used singly or double in series according to water quality requirements.
