Walnut shell filter is one type of separation equipment which adopts filtration separation principle. Walnut shell filter adopts the walnut shells as its filtering mediums, because the walnut shells has the features of hydrophilic but not oleophylic, and when the walnut shells are broken up into small sizes, it increases the superficial area of walnut shells greatly, and even more the walnut shells has excellent absorbability, as a result the walnut shells has high oil removal rates. The walnut shell filter has two control ways, automatic and manual. The oily waste water flows into the walnut shell filter from up to down, through water distributor, walnut shell filter material layer and water collector, the filtering finishes. When backwashing or back flushing, the stirrer overturns the walnut shell filter materials, the water flows from down to up, making the walnut shell filter materials be washed fully, and the walnut shell filters materials can be used again.

Walnut shell can be used as two main materials, filter materials and grinding materials.

• When walnut shell is used as filter materials, the walnut shell is mainly put into the walnut shell filter equipments, when the fluids go through the walnut shell filter from the equipment suction to discharge, the impurities are attached onto the walnut shells, achieving the filtering purpose. Walnut shell filter materials are mostly used in the oil filed, to remove the oil dirt of oily water. In the processing of walnut shell filter materials, it is simplier relatively. Just needing breaking up the walnut shells into small mesh sizes, and removing the other impurities from the walnut shells. Normally, the walnut shell filter materials are big mesh sized of 6# - 35#.
• When walnut shell is used as grinding materials, or abrasive materials, its processing is more complicated that it requires the surfaces must be smooth without any corner, otherwise the walnut shell will damage the surfaces of other objects when used as grinding materials. For example, when the walnut shell is put into spay gun as grinding materials to polish other objects, the walnut shell will damage the surfaces of other objects if the walnut shell has corners itself. And the grinding materials have wider range of mesh sizes, which include all of the mesh sizes from 4# to 200#.
